I recently finished a Teams call with a prospective BOOM member, a successful business leader with an established business and limited time.
The conversation wasn’t about price.
It wasn’t about event formats or ticket numbers.
Instead, she kept returning to one idea:
“I need the right room. I need to find my tribe.”
That stuck with me.
In a world that increasingly prioritises digital solutions and volume-based networking metrics, I still believe the best business is won through human relationships. Face-to-face interactions create something digital platforms simply cannot replicate: energy, trust and mutual understanding.
Effective networking isn’t about how many people you meet.
Rather, it’s about which people you meet, how consistently you meet them, and the environment you meet them in.
Over my years in business I’ve seen networking in many forms, from large open rooms to highly structured referral organisations. One thing quickly became clear: networking is not one-size-fits-all.
Different rooms serve different purposes.
Some are great for early-stage businesses.
Others work well for trades where referrals flow naturally.
Some help individuals build strong local connections.
Meanwhile, others are designed for experienced leaders who value depth, consistency and strategic commercial relationships.
Here’s how BOOM fits into that landscape, and why we recently introduced our Inner Circle tier.
The broader networking landscape
London offers a wide variety of networking communities, each serving different needs.
Business Junction, for example, is one of London’s longest-standing independent networks. Its annual membership allows companies to attend around 50 events each year, breakfasts, lunches and evening receptions. The model focuses on volume of opportunity and connects a wide range of sectors under one umbrella. Members also benefit from advance attendee lists and a 24/7 “Alerts” system to post business opportunities.
City Professionals Network (CPN) occupies a slightly different space. It hosts free monthly networking events aimed primarily at professionals working in the City of London. These events are typically accessible and social, often combined with educational talks or workshops.
BNI (Business Network International) takes a much more structured approach. Built around its “Givers Gain” philosophy, members attend weekly chapter meetings, exchange referrals and benefit from profession exclusivity within their local chapter. This structure can generate reliable referral business. However, it also requires a significant time commitment and consistent participation.
Network My Club blends networking with experiences. Events are often hosted at iconic sporting venues and aimed at directors and decision-makers. Membership includes access to events across multiple locations, workshops and a private WhatsApp community that keeps conversations flowing between gatherings.
At the other end of the spectrum sits Helm (formerly The Supper Club)This is a highly curated community designed for scale-up founders and CEOs with established businesses. Membership requires meeting strict criteria around team size and revenue. The focus is on peer support, confidential forums and strategic conversations with leaders facing similar challenges.
Each of these networks delivers value.
However, they also highlight an important truth:
Not all networking is equal.
And not every room is designed for the same type of leader or stage of business.
Where BOOM sits
BOOM was created with these nuances in mind.
Our monthly in-person events in the City are designed to be premium, curated and commercially minded. We attract leaders running established businesses and teams, alongside ambitious solo leaders who value high-quality conversations and introductions.
Interestingly, the average BOOM member has been trading for over 10 years.
For that reason, BOOM isn’t simply about meeting more people. Instead, it’s about meeting the right people in the right environment.
We don’t chase volume.
Instead, we prioritise:
• relevance
• warmth
• human energy
• a premium experience
The goal is to create the kind of room where relationships feel natural, conversations flow easily and genuine commercial connections form.
Encouragingly, members often tell us that BOOM feels like a real network, somewhere they return consistently rather than occasionally.
Introducing Inner Circle
Of course, strong monthly networking only goes so far.
Many leaders eventually want something deeper. They want a smaller, more consistent room where relationships compound over time and conversations move beyond introductions.
That’s exactly why we created Inner Circle.
Inner Circle is designed for business owners, leaders and executives who treat networking as a strategic investment in growth, not a transactional activity.
Membership includes everything within BOOM:
• full access to networking evenings
• guest privileges
• signature events
• company-wide membership
However, it also introduces a consistent peer group that meets throughout the year.
Members attend private dinners and quarterly round-table sessions. Over time, this continuity builds real trust, stronger perspectives and deeper influence.
Importantly, Inner Circle is not coaching and not a structured mastermind.
Instead, it’s a deliberately curated environment where experienced leaders can surround themselves with people who may materially influence the trajectory of their business.
The right room at the right stage
Every business leader needs a room that matches their ambition and stage.
Some rooms offer broad exposure.
Others generate referrals.
And some provide deep peer support and strategic perspective.
At BOOM, we start with community and high-quality monthly networking.
Inner Circle simply adds another layer, a place where relationships deepen over time and where the room you sit in becomes a genuine advantage.
